Drilling of Petroleum

Petroleum is drilled out of the Earth's crust using drill bits and pipes.

Due to the pressure of petroleum,it flows out on its own when it is drilled.If the pressure is not sufficient , artificial pressure is given.When it comes up it passes through a device called Christmas tree. Christmas tree is device consisting of many valves so that the petroleum can be supplied to different areas.

There are two methods of drilling based on the place from where it is drilled.They are :

• Onshore Drilling

• Offshore Drilling
